Sprawl is the Te Whanganui-a-Tara-based art-rock guitar band led by Felix Bird. Originally the 'Felix Bird Band', they recently switched to an alias to build a stronger emotional connection to the music. After a hard year of work, the band has gained significant relevance in the local grassroots scene, consistently playing shows across the region since their debut in November 2025.
Behind the scenes, the band has been writing and recording, crafting an amalgamation of songs. Fine-tuning their craft and building their sound collaboratively into something that they say is 'Promising'.
'Affirming Actions' is an EP I created alongside my wonderful bandmates Seb, Josh, and Ben. This project shows a glimpse into the future of my musical creation and shows the advancements of my production skills since I started here at Massey.
Drawing my inspiration from musicians and bands such as Modest Mouse, Pinback, quickly, quickly, and Pinegrove, I have created a project that feels authentic and unique to my own ways, reflecting on my own life experiences and journey through Massey University.
